only once in a while you get to meet a “talent” (general term for the portrayed/featured person in front of the camera) that is indeed a talent. in Shigeto‘s case, this talent shined and sparkled through every bit of his appearance, as i went to shoot his concert for Ghostly, in the Monarch, Berlin, back in summer 2011. The fascinating thing about Zach Saginaw’s work, is his way to embrace and respect so much. Legacy and tradition, cultural as well as historical, wrapped up with a sound that is absolutely ahead of the game. Shigeto’s soulful, heavily shuffled grooves are such that leave no doubt once you come in touch – this comes from the heart.

Laura Tufano was 11 y/o when she appeared on Carolina Feix’s short film Marzipan.

in the last 3 years i have been often shooting for the german branch of the worldwide animal rights organization Peta. during this time i got exposed to a lot of information and facts about the rather cruel pursuits of humans and animals on this planet. a lot of what considers to be “normal” in the way we perceive and consume animals has stopped making sense, which eventually turned me from a vegetarian to vegan.

this “new sense”, makes just more and more sense as i go and while this blog/website meant to focus on my professional affairs, i take the opportunity to “come out” with this subject and recommend everybody who’s still reading it, to take a moment, look around and realize to which extent animal abuse interwinds with your life, what you eat, what you wear, what you buy, and give it all just one more deep thought.

in this project, called Pulse of the City , 10 metropolises around the world were featured through interviews made with known people about the cities they’re living in.

all interviewees have been asked the same questions. their answers (audio only) were edited on top of photographic material and field recordings, all made to illustrate the interviewees view on the city, resulting 40 short films.

i have been asked to make 3 sets for Berlin and here they are:

I filled the 2nd Camera position on this production that took place Spring 2005 in a small village in the north of Italy. Film directed by Nicole Mosleh with main roles by Ulrich Mühe (in his very last appearance) and Susanne Lothar.

With presence of Lothar, Ullrich’s wife, with mixed feelings of festivity and longing to Ulli, the team met again after 4.5 years.

I can only recommend watching this complex thriller and hope for a soon distribution in european cinemas.

On a technical side, I was more than surprised to see the quality that was pulled out of the 2 DV cameras we used on this low-budget production.
